Who is Craig?
My Story:
From Breaking Down to Bouncing Back
For most of my life, I believed that if something was wrong, you worked harder, pushed through it and found a way forward.
I’ve spent years training in martial arts, teaching others and developing myself. I also trained as a Life Coach through Tony Robbins, learning about mindset, personal growth and the incredible ability we have to change our lives.
But eventually, I discovered that determination alone isn’t always enough.
When My Body Started Fighting Back
The year before Covid, I broke my ACL skiing and needed surgery to reconstruct it.
Then Covid hit.
My physiotherapy was interrupted soon after my operation, and what should have been a straightforward recovery became a long journey. It took around two years before my knee finally began to feel normal again.
But just as one problem improved, others appeared.
My shoulders started giving me trouble. Then my back.
I saw physiotherapists and chiropractors looking for answers, but instead of feeling better, I felt as though my body was gradually getting worse.
I became exhausted.
If I sat down for too long, simply getting back up and standing could be difficult. Mornings were particularly painful, and I reached a point where feeling stiff, sore and tired had started to become my normal.
I was also diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and I knew something had to change.
The person who had spent his life being active, training martial arts and helping other people was suddenly struggling to understand his own body.
Then Life Hit Me From Another Direction
At around the same time, I went through an extremely stressful period in my working life.
After years of management and leadership, I found myself being forced into a demotion through circumstances I felt were completely outside my control.
It affected more than my career.
Looking back, I can see how physical pain, exhaustion, stress and losing my sense of direction had all become tangled together.
For the first time, I wasn't really sure where I was going.
More importantly, I didn't know how to get myself back.
The Turning Point
Around 2yrs ago, I discovered Applied-Kinesiology.
That changed the direction of my life.
As I explored kinesiology and began looking at the body differently, I started to feel that I was finally asking better questions.
Rather than only asking:
“Where does it hurt?”
I became interested in:
“Why is my body struggling in the first place?”
My energy improved, I felt dramatically better in myself, and the health problems that had dominated my life began to change.
But there was still another piece of the puzzle waiting for me.
Finding the Missing Link
Through years of martial arts, I had always stretched.
Yet despite stretching regularly, my flexibility had actually been getting worse.
Then I discovered Human Garage and Fascial Maneuvers.
Something clicked.
For me, fascia felt like the missing link between so many of the things I had been learning about the body.
I began practising Fascial Maneuvers myself and quickly noticed changes in my flexibility, posture and movement.
Eventually, I stopped doing the traditional stretching I had relied on for years. Fascial Maneuvers became my approach to keeping my own body moving.
My experiences with martial arts, coaching, kinesiology and fascia were beginning to connect.
And Body Mechanic was born.
Why I Do This
I know what it feels like to wake up hurting.
I know what it's like to feel permanently tired.
I know the frustration of trying different things and wondering why your body still doesn't feel right.
I know what it's like to be under enormous stress while trying to carry on as though everything is fine.
And I know what it's like to look at yourself and think:
“This isn't me. How did I get here?”
That is the person I want to help.
You don't have to be an athlete.
You don't have to be flexible.
And you certainly don't have to arrive feeling positive, motivated and ready to conquer the world.
Maybe you've simply reached the point where you've had enough of feeling the way you feel.
That's where I started too.
Craig Nye | Body Mechanic
My approach brings together a lifetime of martial arts, coaching, kinesiology and Fascial Maneuvers with something equally important:
I've been on the other side of it.
My journey wasn't about returning to the person I used to be.
It was about understanding myself and my body in a completely different way.
After injury, pain, exhaustion, health problems and one of the most stressful periods of my life, I'm bouncing back stronger, more knowledgeable and with a completely new direction.
Now I want to use everything I've learned along the way to help other people begin their own journey.
Because sometimes your body isn't asking you to push harder.
It's asking you to start listening.
